INDIAN OCEAN - A U.S. Navy Sailor assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Essex was fatally injured aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) Nov. 23, while the ship was anchored off the coast of Bali, Indonesia.
The Sailor lost consciousness after suffering a blunt trauma injury during a daily systems operability test. He received emergency medical attention from the embarked Fleet Surgical Team. The Fleet Surgical Team was not able to revive the Sailor despite exhaustive efforts to save his life. He
