DCNS successfully completes latest series of sea trials with FREMM frigate Aquitaine

FREMM frigate Aquitaine berthed at DCNS’s Lorient shipyard on Friday 25 November after three weeks of successful sea trials, during which DCNS teams pursued integration and testing of the combat system under the supervision of the French defence procurement agency (DGA). NATO Pirate Attack Report

The NATO Shipping Centre site has just posted details of an attack currently underway in the Gulf of Aden.
The report states that a merchant vessel in position 12.18N-044.03E was attacked by two skiffs with six to seven people in each skiff at 14:05 UTC. According to the report, the vessel is still under attack and we await further details.

NATO Alert Report: Suspicious Approach

The NATO Shipping Centre has just posted details of a suspicious approach today by pirates on a merchant vessel.
According to the report, a merchant vessel in position 11.59N-045.07E was approached by three skiffs with two to three persons on board each skiff. Two skiffs approached from the vessel's stern, closing to within 1nm and one from ahead closing to within 2nm. The skiffs did not attack but broke off and moved away from the merchant vessel, which is safe.

The Ministers of Defence of the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU) have started talks in Brussels to try to solve the shortage of warships in the Atalanta mission to combat piracy in the Indian Ocean.

Fighters from more than four countries are pouring into Somalia supposedly to prop up its besieged government against militants from the Al Shabab Islamist group.

Ruling awaited in French trial of Somali "pirates"

Paris - A French jury was due to rule Wednesday on the fate of six suspected Somali pirates, who were put on trial in Paris on charges of taking a French couple hostage aboard their yacht in 2008.

NATO Pirate Attack Report

NATO Shipping Centre today reports an attempted hijacking in the Arabian Sea/Indian Ocean. According to the report, a merchant vessel underway in position 15.02N-056.39E came under attack by one skiff with an unknown number of occupants at 08:20 UTC. 
The report states that the merchant vessel was the subject of an attempted boarding, but that the pirates have since ceased their attack.

Vietnamese fishermen on a Taiwanese fishing boat hijacked by Somali pirates off the Indian Ocean last December are still in stable condition after spending about one year in the hands of the pirates, online newspaper VnExpressreported.

French prosecutors urge tough sentences for Somali 'pirates'

French prosecutors urged a court on Monday to impose tough sentences of up to 16 years in prison on six Somali men on trial in Paris for taking a French couple hostage on their yacht.
