Australia's status as a stable, industrialised nation means it will remain an attractive destination for asylum seekers and people smugglers, Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor says.
In a broad ranging speech on threats to national security to be delivered on Tuesday, Mr O'Connor will highlight the government's focus on border management, climate change and online safety.
Mr O'Connor also will address the hot button issue of boat people.
