The Superior Council of National Defence has approved the Portuguese government’s proposal for military missions abroad next year, putting an end to participation in NATO’s anti-piracy mission off Somalia and in the EU peacekeeping mission in Bosnia.
The council announced it had given its blessing to participation in the EU’s Atalanta anti-piracy mission in the Indian Ocean, a training programme for Somali troops, and NATO’s air surveillance programme over Iceland.
