5 Somali men convicted of pirate attack on US warship are appealing their convictions

RICHMOND, Va.
- The first piracy conviction in a U.S. courtroom in nearly 200 years was going before an appeals court Tuesday as five Somali men who launched an attack on a Navy warship off the coast of Africa sought to reverse a jury's verdict.
Attorneys for the five planned to argue before a three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the men's actions fell short of the legal standard for piracy.
